With its Lancaster Bombers and Flying Boat, it’s hard not to be impressed by MOTAT’s Aviation Display Hall. It was designed as a large open space, unfortunately resulting in a vast amount of reflective surfaces.
The unwanted echo from visitor voices made the spacious hanger feel small and crowded. Autex’s challenge was to keep the focus on the planes by providing an acoustic solution that would reduce distracting background noise.
Autex worked with Studio Pacific Architecture to include over 3,000m2 of GreenStuf® Autex Acoustic Blanket (AAB) in black to bring out the colour in the planes and compliment the raw commercial design. GreenStuf AAB is a cost-effective solution where a large amount of product is required. GreenStuf AAB works well across all frequencies but a key feature is its ability to work at the low, hard to reach frequencies.
Because GreenStuf AAB is a non-toxic, non-allergenic, non-irritant product it was able to be installed completely exposed, providing maximum sound absorption whilst complimenting the rigid design of the hanger. To enhance the overall appearance of the GreenStuf AAB, mechanical anchors were used to fix the product to the wooden battens.
GreenStuf AAB is manufactured from 100% polyester fibre and contains a minimum of 45% already recycled fibre (from PET plastic). Committed to best practices; Autex are proud to have manufactured under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Quality and Environmental Management systems with zero waste going to landfill.
GreenStuf AAB returned the hanger to a museum like environment the visitors expected and with its 50-year warranty will control the acoustics for years to come.
